Homecoming Weekend in Buxton

The 96th Annual Buxton Homecoming is this weekend in North Buxton.

Shannon Prince has been a driving force for the event over the years, but she says it’s a generational change this year.

“It’s the youth that are really stepping up to the plate and getting things done,” Prince says. “96 years ago, it was our great grandparents, our grandparents, our parents, and now they are taking head lead, which is wonderful. Buxton’s Next Generation are doing an amazing job and keeping the community together and alive and keeping that rich legacy alive as well.”

The festivities kick off with the history and genealogy conference featuring a number of guest speakers. Tomorrow the family feud baseball tournament beings, Sunday features a worship service and the United We Ride cycling event for the United Way, and Monday’s fun and games include the parade, car show, and a Guinness world record attempt for the longest soul train line.

Prince says just because you may not live in North Buxton, doesn’t mean you can’t come “home.”

“I think for a lot of years, people were under the impression or had the perception that this only for people who once lived here or the descendants of, but it’s not. This is a community, everyone is invited.”
