Hometown Hockey Festivities Begin

Rogers Hometown Hockey celebrations are kicking off across Chatham-Kent.

Dave Depencier is one of the local organizers, and says the festivities will include the official renaming of the Dresden arena in honour of the late Ken Houston.

“The name change itself kind of opened the doors for us to do something special for him and his family to remember him. Ken’s grandsons are playing on the Saturday morning for the minor hockey game day for the changing of the name as well,” says Depencier.

Meantime, downtown Chatham is a hive of activity preparing for a full weekend of events, featuring former NHLer Thomas Kaberle, the Stanley Cup, and hockey-themed activities for the whole family.

Hometown Hockey culminates with the live broadcast from Wellington Street in Chatham during the Sunday night NHL game on Sportsnet.
