Two dozen people from across Chatham-Kent will be recognized for their work in the community later this month.
The second annual Community Recognition Awards will be handed out at the Chatham Capitol Theatre on April 24th. ‘
The awards program is a partnership between the Mayor’s Office and CN Railway. The awards night sponsor includes the Main Street Credit Union. This annual initiative is designed to celebrate and honour the individuals who have made a significant contribution to our community.
New this year will be honours for young people. High school principals in the municipality are being asked to nominate a student who puts time and effort in volunteering.
“Volunteers are the life-blood of a community and we have seen that declining,” said Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff. “We want to start reversing the trend of harder-to-find volunteers and we need to tap into the youth. I think it’s a critical program for our youth to encourage that.”
Wallaceburg adult recipients who will be recognized include Virginia Smith, Brian Armitage, Henry Van Haren and Greg Hetherington.
