With eased COVID restrictions for outdoor events, residents across Chatham-Kent will have the opportunity to honour Remembrance Day.
Mayor Darrin Canniff says taking the time to remember is so important.
“My father and grandfather are both veterans, and thousands of Canadians made sacrifices so we can live in one of the greatest countries in the world,” Canniff says. “To spend some time, whether it’s going out to a monument or spending five minutes during the day just to remember, it’s so important.”
The annual Wallaceburg service will take place at the Cenotaph at the corner of McNaughton and Dufferin, starting at 10:55. Branch 18 Legion officials say only armed forces groups and government officials will be placing wreaths during the service. Anyone else who wishes to purchase a wreath should have it placed before or after the service.
In downtown Chatham, residents are invited to the cenotaph for a service beginning just before 11 o’clock. A ceremony will air on YourTV today as well, taped at an invite-only event with local veterans and political figures, held at the Bradley Centre earlier in the week.
This morning’s service at the Cenotaph in Dresden will feature a flyover by the 403 Flying Formation Team.
Events are also being held this morning in Blenheim, Merlin, Ridgetown, Thamesville and Tilbury.
Erieau’s Remembrance Day service gets underway at 2 o’clock this afternoon.
