This is Victims and Survivors of Crime Week.
Kate do Forno, Executive Director of Chatham-Kent Victim Services, says they want to recognize and honour the resiliency of those who’ve suffered trauma and tragedy.
“Victims and Survivors of Crime Week is an opportunity to celebrate the strength of people who have experienced such challenging moments in their lives,” do Forno says. “We want to make sure people are aware because this isn’t a simple process.”
Do Forno says the number of victims has increased during the pandemic, especially those suffering domestic violence.
“We know that this is part and parcel because of COVID, having people being stuck at home is a bit of a challenge. We’re here to make sure that individuals, if they’re experiencing any sort of domestic violence, you know there’s a safe place to turn to help you cope and find strategies to make changes.”
Victim Services is always looking for more volunteers. do Forno says more help is always needed for those facing the most challenging moments of their lives.
Applications for victim services volunteers are now being accepted at ckvictimservices.com with a training class being scheduled for February, 2021.
