Despite the snow, Wallaceburg residents came out in droves to honour local veterans at yesterday’s Remembrance Day service.

The ceremonies started at Wallaceburg District Secondary School and then a parade of students and others paraded to the cenotaph for a 20-minute outdoors service.

Wallaceburg Legion president Mike Hindmarsh says seeing the community’s support was overwhelming.

“It tells me that the people of Wallaceburg, and the high school really do want to show the support and the tributes to the veterans and what they meant to our freedom that we have today.”

Hindmarsh said there was one World War II veteran that he saw at the high school ceremony—John Murray. He said that there’s not many World War II veterans left locally, as most are in their 90s.
