Chatham-Kent’s mayor is being singled out for his support of the wind industry.
The Canadian Wind Energy Association held its annual awards ceremony in Gatineau, Quebec last night, presenting Randy Hope with the Friend of Wind Award.
Speaking from Ottawa this morning, Hope says it’s an honour to be recognized, and that he’s proud of Chatham-Kent for being a pioneer in the wind industry.
“From the community’s perspective it says the great job that we’ve done in order to bring renewables in here to mitigate coal fired electricity in the province of Ontario,” Hope says. “Chatham-Kent can be proud that we’re the ones that helped start cleaning the air up in Ontario and around the Great Lakes basin.”
The accolade is presented to individuals or groups for their “outstanding voluntary contributions to advancing awareness of the benefits of wind energy at the community level.”
It’s the second such honour for the mayor, who also received the 20/20 Leadership Award in January 2016 from the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association.
