Chatham-Kent’s mayor is keeping busy with meetings in Montreal and Washington.
Randy Hope recently took part in the Great Lakes Cities Initiative, where Donald Trump’s recently withdrawn from the Paris Agreement on climate change was be high on the agenda.
“We were extremely upset after [Trump] pulled out of the Paris Agreement. We’re still putting pressure on the climate change issue that we face. When 20% of the world’s fresh water lies around our borders, we all have very specific concerns. Everything from algae blooms to a number of other things. It is a very strong message that we’re sending as a united body. We’re actually called Mayors Without Borders – the Great Lakes is what holds us together”, says Hope.
Next up, Hope is heading to DC for a meeting with a group called Select USA to meet with potential investors.
“There are foreign companies, and from the US, that are meeting in Washington for an investors [event]. We’re going there to solicit investment in Chatham-Kent”, Hope explains.
