Environment Canada has extended it heat warning for Chatham-Kent and the Windsor region today with Humidex values expected to reach the mid-40s.
While it not be the news that students and teachers want to hear as they head back to the classroom, Environment Canada meteorologist Geoff Coulson says it appears conditions will remain above normal for at least the first couple of weeks in September.
“The models are indicating that the pattern we’ve seen over the last few weeks, which is basically conditions somewhat warmer than normal, precipitation levels around normal, that pattern is expected to continue for at least through mid-to-late September,” Coulson says. “That doesn’t necessarily mean we’re going to see a lot more in the way of 30+ temperatures and 40+ Humidexes, but certainly overall it does look like September is going to be warmer than normal.”
The break is the hot, hazy, humid conditions is expected to arrive tomorrow with showers and thunderstorms in the forecast.
