Arson charges have been laid against a Chatham man.
Authorities say the accused was at a friend’s house earlier this week when he set a bed on fire.
Constable Kelly Helbin says the homeowners asked the man to leave, which didn’t go over well.
“He begins throwing items around the house, he damages a light fixture,” says Helbin. “At that they insist they ask him to leave again but he refuses to do so, so he does end up staying at the house.”
Yesterday, officers were called to the house when the accused again refused to leave.
The 27-year-old is now charged with arson, mischief, and weapons dangerous.
