Human remains discovered at a Wallaceburg construction site have turned out to be historical in nature.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were notified on October 9 at around 4:18 p.m., that the remains had been found by a construction company at an excavation site on Gillard Street.

Police responded and secured the scene while forensic anthropologists were called in to examine and determine the origin of the remains.

Following a thorough examination, it was confirmed that the remains had been at the location for “an extremely long time.”

The remains have since been collected and are currently in the custody of the coroner’s office, which is now handling the investigation.

Authorities say the incident is no longer a police matter.
