A locally produced documentary focusing on the rise of human trafficking, intimate partner violence, and femicide will premiere in Chatham-Kent.
Produced by Kat and Karissa Strain, known professionally as The Sisters Strain, “The Coalition” is a documentary film that aims to educate the community about the rise of violence against women.
Produced in partnership with Chatham-Kent’s Anti-Human Trafficking Coalition and The Chatham-Kent Coordinating Committee to End Violence Against Women, the film shows family members and survivors from all over Ontario who share their firsthand, lived experience of human trafficking and femicide.
The filmmakers note that intimate partner violence has been deemed an epidemic in over 100 municipalities across the province, with one woman killed every five days in Ontario.
A red carpet premiere screening of the documentary will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, at the Chatham Capitol Theatre. The screening is open to everyone, and entry is free. Donations of feminine hygiene products will be accepted at the door and distributed to several local support organizations.
