Some strong words of warning for area residents during a town hall on human trafficking.
Chatham-Kent MPP Rick Nicholls hosted the event at the Bradley Centre, and says it can be a shocking topic, but an important one.
“Human trafficking is modern day slavery,” Nicholls says. “We talked about where these perpetrators or predators hang out…it’s anywhere and everywhere, they’ll target young people who have low self esteem or are being bullied.”
Authorities say the 401 is a major corridor for human trafficking, with predators known to stalk potential victims at the On Route service centres.
As many as 600 people turned out for the meeting, which included information on how to spot potential predators and where to turn for help.
For those who weren’t able to attend, the town hall will be broadcast on YourTV in the near future.
