Hundreds Of Charges Laid During OPP Festive RIDE Campaign

Hundreds of alleged impaired drivers were taken off provincial roads over the holiday season.

According to the Ontario Provincial Police, 258 impaired driving charges were laid in the West Region during the annual Festive Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) campaign. As well, officers issued 49 warn-range suspensions.

The OPP conducted a total of 1,904 RIDE checkpoints during the Festive RIDE campaign, which took place between mid-November of last year and January 2.

OPP detachments in Middlesex, Oxford and Essex counties saw the highest number of cases of impaired driving.

Police encourage anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver to call 911.
