Chatham-Kent council is being asked to consider supporting a provincial curling event.
Organizers of Pinty’s Elite 10-Grand Slam of Curling are looking to bring the event to Chatham next year.
The event sees the five top-ranked female and male curlers in the world compete in a number of games across the globe and CK could be one of the stops.
The cost would be $10,000 for marketing the event, another $40,000 to support local marketing such as rink advertising and Sportsnet commercials, and a guarantee of up $160,000 hosting fee should the event end up in a deficit position.
It’s believed that the event could generate more than a million dollars in direct benefit to businesses in the region.
