It’s a slick morning on the roads around Chatham-Kent with freezing rain overnight.

School buses in all zones are cancelled today in Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton. The same goes for Community Living buses in Chatham and Wallaceburg.

Most schools are open today, with the exception of Wallaceburg Christian School and Bkejwanong Kinomaagewgamig on Walpole Island.

Salters and plows have been out all night, but with the risk of frozen slush and black ice, authorities are warning both motorists and pedestrians of very slick conditions, especially on bridges and overpasses.

Meantime, the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority is warning of the potential for localized flooding because of the rain and melting snow.

Depending on how the weather plays out, officials say they may need to operate the Indian-McGregor Creek Diversion Channel in order to protect the south end of the City of Chatham.

And although it will be a milder day today, the mercury will drop back down tonight, which could lead to dangerous, icy conditions once again.
