A collision on Highway 401 has resulted in charges for a Ridgetown man.

The Ontario Provincial Police said a passenger vehicle hauling a trailer was involved in a single-vehicle crash in the westbound lanes east of Orford Road shortly before 3:15 p.m. on Monday.

There were two people in the vehicle at the time of the crash but no serious injuries were reported.

Officers responded to the scene and noticed that the driver was showing signs of intoxication. Authorities administered a roadside breath test which registered a fail and the driver was taken into custody for further testing.

As a result, a 61-year-old Ridgetown man has been charged with impaired driving and driving with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit. He was also issued a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle will be impounded for seven days.

The accused will answer the charges in court next month.
