The Playroom Experiment, supported by former Wallaceburg resident and WDSS graduate Mike Primeau, aims to create inclusive gaming play spaces for families living with special needs and social isolation.
The project was first introduced at LCCVI in Petrolia last year.
Primeau says he is beyond happy to officially announce the next school project coming to his hometown and hopes this is a sign of things to come.
“I have the tremendous honour of leading a project for the student community of my former high school,” he says. “WDSS has been more than supportive. The Playroom Experiment will also serve to expand the community hub they have recently built.”
The full project will require $15,000 worth of fundraising to build an inner-school gaming program, and will include a board game library, a Nintendo Switch, and a brand new pinball machine.
Students will have an opportunity to contribute their 40-hours of community service through the program, all in an effort to improve the lives of young people in a meaningful way.
“Statistics show that kids become less happy with life as they get older, and we are going to start changing that through the power of gaming,” says Primeau.
The concept for the project was born in Primeau’s own home through his own experiences with his son Luke, who is Autistic.
This weekend, Primeau announced that the Nintendo Switch is now ready for the alternative learning centre at WD and will be delivered on Tuesday.
