Plans are in the works for another wage hike for Ontario’s lowest earners.

The Ford government has announced it will be increasing the minimum wage from $17.60 an hour to $17.95, effective October 1, 2026.

“Ontario workers are the engine of this province,” said David Piccini, Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development in a news release. “By raising the minimum wage to one of the highest in Canada, our government is putting more money in the pockets of Ontario workers, supporting families through economic uncertainty and giving businesses the stability and predictability they need to plan and grow.”

Under the Employment Standards Act, the provincial minimum wage increases each year based on the Ontario Consumer Price Index.

Once the hike goes into effect, officials say a worker making the general minimum wage and working 40 hours per week will see an annual pay increase of up to $728.
