The cost of traffic control signals and related electrical device maintenance in Chatham-Kent is about to see an almost 50 percent increase.

Maple City Electric was awarded the contract for traffic control signal maintenance back in 2022 for their bid of $754,308.90 including HST.

Administration recommends increasing the contract approval by another $517,822.31 to $1,272,131.21

In a report by Chatham-Kent Director of Engineering Marissa Mascaro Amyotte, the proposed adjustment is due to an unexpected increase in locating underground utilities, like traffic signal infrastructure before excavation work.  This is due to an update in the Ontario Underground Infrastructure Notification Act.

Council will vote on the proposed increase at Monday night’s council meeting.
