The government of Ontario is making $315-million available to upgrade internet and cell phone access for rural Ontarians.

The announcement was made in Lucan yesterday with Lambton Kent Middlesex MPP and Minster of Labour Monte McNaughton on hand.

“Families in rural Ontario have waited too long for help getting better broadband,” said McNaughton. “Our government is taking action so families don’t have to drive to fast food restaurants or local libraries to get good wifi.”

A new broadband fund of $150-million will combine with private sector funding.

Government officials say along with the social benefits, the plan will generate up to $1 billion in total investment over five years.
