A new committee is being formed to focus solely on Chatham-Kent’s infrastructure.
North Kent Councillor Leon Leclair says the committee will examine bridge, road, and culvert issues to help with maintenance and construction projects.
Leclair says this will give him a chance to ask more in-depth questions.
“As a Councillor, I’ve approved over half a billion dollars in projects and we’ve never ever asked the hard questions, I don’t think, never asked for reports back,” he says.
“When I first came on council, I noticed projects were 30-40% in engineering costs so I kept asking, that’s a lot of money,” the Ward Four representative explains. “It’s down now to 15 or 20, but I don’t know if our structures are any more efficient.”
The committee’s structure and mandate will be presented to Council in October.
