Public Works crews will be taking a closer look at the walking bridge in downtown Wallaceburg this week.
Municipal officials shut down the Stonehouse Pedestrian Bridge last week, citing public safety concerns after rust was found on some of the structural components.
Brendan Falkner, Chatham-Kent’s Manager of Engineering, says municipal staff and staff from Dillon Consulting will be inspecting the span and determine what the next steps will be to make repairs and get the bridge reopened.
A report to council last month, officials say a design of the bridge rehabilitation is expected to be done next year with construction planned for either 2022 or 2023.
