Blenheim residents now have access to fully integrated referral-based healthcare services in one location within their community.
A ribbon cutting and grand opening of the Blenheim Health Hub was held on Thursday at the facility on Hyland Drive.
The 26,000 square foot hub is the new home of the Blenheim branch of the Chatham-Kent Family Health Team, the new Blenheim Health Hub Pharmacy, Health Hub Dental, Circle Health, and the Chatham-Kent Mental Health and Trauma Therapy Centre. The Hub will also be home to Chatham-Kent’s first women’s health clinic.
The Blenheim Medical Health Foundation launched its campaign in 2023, with the goal of attracting new doctors to the area by building a bigger and better space. Since then, the foundation has also recruited two new family physicians.
“We had to figure out a way… to have the healthcare presence in Blenheim grow so that the community could grow with it,” said Dr. Andrew Lanz-O’Brien, the foundation’s vice chair. “You have to grow, and if you don’t grow, you’re not going to be able to have a good healthcare outcome for the future.”
With around 5,000 square feet of space still available for lease, the foundation is currently engaged in ongoing discussions with potential diagnostic imaging and laboratory service providers.
Thanks to $6.1 million in donations from Timmerman family and Reese Foundation, the health hub and recruiting program has been exclusively funded by local community donors. No municipal, provincial, or federal funding was provided for the initiative.
The Blenheim Health Hub will officially open to the public on September 23.
