Police are looking for suspects after several break-in at smoke barns in the area.

A number of barns for curing tobacco have been broken into around Fargo Road, Erieau Road, and Talbot Trail in the last two weeks.

Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers says  not only is the theft of several thousand stalks of tobacco a concern to the farmers, but also the risk of fire when opening one of these barns.

The potential loss of a crop could cost the farmer hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Authorities say the suspects would have to have knowledge about the tobacco industry since the stage of the missing plants needs further treatment to make it a marketable product.
