The 2019 IPM had a distinctly Chatham-Kent flair, with Pain Court teen Matthew Sterling winning his class at the match.
The 16-year-old is the Class 2 Group 2 Reserve Champion, won a $2500 scholarship, and earned a berth in the 2020 Canadian Plowing Championships in Manitoba.
Sterling says he’s been plowing for six years, but the field is in his blood.
“My family has been very supportive of me. Both my brothers plow and my dad plows as well, all three have been my mentors,” Sterling says. “I was probably out in the plow field before I could walk.”
The Grade 12 UCC student hopes to enroll in the robotics program at Conestoga College next year.
