Wallaceburg area drivers can expect a few months of frustration thanks to the McNaughton Ave. Murray Street reconstruction.
Work will be getting underway tomorrow to remove the current road surface, and when all is said and done the asphalt, curbs, gutters and signal lights will all be replaced.
It’s going to take some time though, lane closures and delays can be expected until the end of July.
McNaughton Avenue is already down to a single lane in each direction ahead of the start of construction tomorrow – all businesses along that stretch remain open.
Meantime, the Ministry of Transportation is on the verge of closing the Hwy 40 and 401 bridge and interchange.
Area Contracts Engineer Brian Kope says there’s a lot of work to do.
“We’re going to have to demolish the bridge, will will be done on (April) 28th and 29th,” Kope says. “We’ll reconstruct the second half of the bridge and all the interchange ramps will be redone.”
About 3,500 vehicles pass over the bridge each day, while 21,000 vehicles pass by along the 401.
The ramps and bridge will be closed from Tuesday, April 18th until mid-November.
