A heartbreaking loss for the community – after almost two years, Jocelyn McGlynn has lost her battle with Leukemia.
First diagnosed in November, 2018, McGlynn underwent two stem cell transplants before relapsing this past May. She passed away at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto on Saturday.
The 23-year-old, who had been studying to become a doctor herself, went public with her battle in the hopes of raising awareness about the disease and the importance of blood donation and stem cell swab clinics.
Family say more than 2000 people joined the stem cell registry in the first six months of McGlynn’s battle and numerous lives were saved with transfusions.
Visitation will be held by appointment only at the Alexander and Houle Funeral Home in Chatham on Wednesday and Thursday, followed by a funeral service at Blessed Sacrament Church on Friday. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, seating will be limited but the service will also be livestreamed by the church.
