
A local politician has been given a new role at Queens Park as part of Premier Doug Ford’s first cabinet following the provincial election.
Chatham-Kent Leamington MPP Trevor Jones, who was reelected for a second term last month, was named the new provincial Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness on Wednesday.
The role was formally held by Elgin-Middlesex-London MPP Rob Flack who has since been named the new Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
Prior to the election, Jones served as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and Deputy Government House Leader. He held several other previous positions in his first term including Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade; Associate Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Response.
Ford’s cabinet announcement on Wednesday also included changes to the areas of authority and responsibilities for two ministries. Minister of the Environment, Conservation and Parks Todd McCarthy will now have authority over conservation authorities. As well, Minister of Energy and Mines Stephen Lecce will now be responsible for broadband expansion and connectivity.
