MPP Trevor Jones has been re-elected to represent the residents of Chatham-Kent-Leamington.

This will mark Jones’ second term as a member of the governing party, with the PC Party earning its third straight majority victory in Thursday’s provincial election.

Jones said he spent the month-long campaign speaking to his constituents and listening to their concerns, which centred on the impending threat of U.S.-imposed tariffs on Canadian imports.

“It’s the economy. That’s on all of our minds. It’s our jobs, our children’s jobs, our futures,” said Jones.

With the election over, Jones said the Ontario government now has a “renewed mandate” to face the potential economic impact of those tariffs.

“It says we’re aligned now with the Trump administration, for good or bad, and now you know who you’re dealing with. We have consistent stability and leadership,” said Jones. “The business community needs stability and needs consistency. We have that now.”

According to the unofficial results from Elections Ontario, Jones earned 22,250 votes, which accounted for over 52 per cent of all votes cast in Chatham-Kent-Leamington.

Liberal Party candidate Bill Kirby was the runner-up in the riding with 7,856 votes, while NDP Candidate Christian Sachs came in third with 7,333 votes. Also on the ballot were Matthew Davey with the Green Party, New Blue candidate Rhonda Jubenville, and Phillip St-Laurent with the Ontario Party.

Just over 48 per cent of registered voters in Chatham-Kent-Leamington cast a ballot during the election.
