Hydro One is putting the finishing touches on the hydro grid for next months International Plowing Match near Pain Court.
As many as 250 hydro poles and 20km of line has been installed for the provincial event.
Front Line Manager Paul Chambers says the company has donated about $500,000 in free labour to get the system up and running.
“We’ve been building this now coming up on the 4th week,” Chambers says. “We’re kind of tying up the finishing ends and getting the last few poles in the ground and installing transformers and getting this mini city of power ready to go for the IPM.”
The crew working on the Pain Court site is the same that hooked up the Huron County IPM last year.
“You can tell based on the efficiency of this year the guys learned a lot from last year,” Chambers explains. “As far as I know and talking to the electrician, things are progressing very well, we’re ahead of the ball.”
He equates the power necessary to running the plowing match as about the same a small town of 1500 homes would use.
The International Plowing Match and Rural Expo kicks off September 18th.
