Chatham-Kent’s police dog is getting the credit for helping track down a suspected thief.
Shortly after receiving a call about a stolen white Chevy Silverado in Harwich Township early yesterday morning, Chatham-Kent Police were notified about a crash on Rose Beach Line and Antrim Road with a vehicle matching the same description.
Officers arrived and confirmed the vehicle involved had been stolen, however authorities say the driver had already fled the scene.
Police K9 Helix managed to track down the accused on a property about a kilometre away. The suspect is also accused of breaking into a trailer and shed.
A 36-year-old Chatham man is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, failing to remain at the scene of a collision, possession of stolen property, and two counts of break and enter.
He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
