It’s that time of year – police are warning drivers to be on the lookout for wildlife.
A car struck a deer on Communication Road near Cundle Line around 10 o’clock Tuesday night. The driver wasn’t injured, although the deer wasn’t so lucky.
Police are reminding drivers to keep a close eye on the shoulders of the road, especially during dawn and dusk when most collisions with animals tend to happen.
Other tips for avoiding collisions with wildlife:
- Use high beams at night, when possible, and watch for the glowing eyes of animals.
- If an animal is crossing the road, stop as safely as possible, in your lane.
- Remember, if one animal crosses the road, others may follow.
- Never swerve suddenly. This may cause you to lose control of your vehicle, resulting in a more serious collision.
