Local dental professionals have a few tips for kids and adults when it comes to eating candy this Halloween.
If you’re worried about cavities, Leeanne Pepper, a dental hygienist from the Public Health Unit says that certain types of candy are better for teeth than others.
“The stickier or more artificial it is, the more harmful it is to teeth,” Pepper says. “If you’re thinking gummy treats, they stick in there and are almost impossible to get out even with a toothbrush.”
Pepper says things like chocolate dissolves over time and isn’t quite as harmful.
Pepper also says to brush a little long and more thoroughly after eating candy to minimize the amount of sugar that’s exposed to your teeth.
