After wrapping up another long weekend, Chatham-Kent’s Marine Unit is looking ahead to Labour Day.
Constable Ian Scoyne says law enforcers are going to be out every weekend for the rest of the summer, making sure boaters are being safe on the water.
He says officers will be looking for a few things.
“Drinking and driving, making sure everyone has their proper safety (equipment,) everyone needs their life jackets, and everyone’s abiding by the laws of operating a boat.” Scoyne explains. “Drinking and driving is as dangerous on a boat as it is in a car.”
The Marine Unit is operated through a partnership between Chatham-Kent Police, OPP, and the Ministry of Natural Resources.
