Keeping An Eye On Local Waterways

More rain and high winds could cause problems along local waterways.

The St Clair Region Conservation Authority is warning of the risk of minor flooding in some areas. Officials say upwards of 30mm of rain expected over the next day or so could slow the movement of water coming out of the Sydenham.

The LTVCA says the watershed hasn’t had a chance to dry out since the last significant rainfall, which will cause more runoff into local streams than usual, and localized flooding or ponding should be expected.

Staff may have to operate the McGregor Creek Diversion Channel should there be more rain than expected to help prevent flooding at the south end of Chatham.

Water levels in downtown Chatham will rise up enough to finish flooding over the sidewalk along the river in the downtown.  Water levels on the Thames River should be expected to remain slightly elevated through next week.
