Kent Bridge Country Market Set To Relocate And Expand

The Kent Bridge Country Market is expanding.

The owners of the popular market at the intersection of Kent Bridge Road and Longwoods Road say the facility has outgrown its current location and they would like to move roughly 10 kilometres down Longwoods Road to a newly acquired property.

The site, which had been home to the Chatham Sales Arena until the Wednesday Market closed in 2023, had previously been zoned rural industrial.

“The proposed rezoning offers an opportunity to utilize the site for a business that has successfully operated in a nearby hamlet servicing both the rural area and the travelling public,” a report to council from Anthony Jas, Chatham-Kent Manager of Development and Planning Services reads.

“The subject lands offer a location closer to the Chatham urban area, it is located on the same road as the current location, maintains a rural setting that is part of the businesses charm, and it offers the long-term ability to grow and further diversify.”

Members of council voted unanimously to approve a rezoning for the property on Longwoods Road near Caledonia Road to allow a bakery, eating establishment, farmers’ market, and supermarket.
