More than 100 childcare sites across southwestern Ontario will take part in a fun-filled event this week, all while helping those in need in local communities.
Educators and children at 120 YMCA childcare and school-age care sites in the region will participate in a “Great Outdoors” themed Move-a-Thon on Thursday.
The event helps the YMCA raise funds to ensure everyone has access to YMCA programs and services, regardless of background, belief, or ability to pay. Last year’s Move-a-Thon raised $50,000 and organizers are hoping to surpass this year with a goal of $60,000.
The Move-a-Thon will include several activities at each site including a BBQ night, raffle, garden sale, spaghetti night, bake sale, outdoor games, obstacle course, camp games, pancake breakfast, and more.
Currently, 35 per cent of families utilizing YMCA services receive financial assistance to access day camps, fitness facilities, and other recreational programs.
