Lake Levels Remain High, But Not Record Breaking

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority is keeping close tabs on water levels in both Lake Erie and Lake St Clair.

Although current water levels are down from where they were at this time in both 2020 and 2019, the lakes are still well above average with an ongoing risk of flooding and shoreline damage.

Average water levels on Lake Erie at the beginning of October were 174.64 metres. The all-time record high monthly average was set in 1986 at 174.94 metres.

Lake St Clair is sitting at roughly 175.6 metres, compared to the 1986 record of 175.96.

Officials with the LTVCA say strong winds out of any direction could impact some areas along local shorelines, with Erie Shore Drive remaining one of the most vulnerable spots in Chatham-Kent.
