Conservation officials continue to keep close tabs on local lakes.
A shoreline condition statement from the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority says while current water levels on Lake Erie and Lake St Clair are down from this time over the past several years, they are still well above average.
Officials say near gale force winds or stronger could cause flooding along the shoreline, bringing the risk of further erosion and damage to shoreline protection works.
The average daily water levels on Lake Erie at the start of the month were 173.52m, about 35cm lower than last year’s peak daily average but still 33cm above what is considered normal for the month of September.
Lake St Clair sits at roughly 175.46 m, down about 35 cm from last year’s peak daily average. Water levels at the beginning of September were 34 cm above what would be considered normal for the month.
