Louie Blackbird, Ken Shine and Daryl Lucio with the new Thunderhawks logo

The Wallaceburg Lakers time in the Jr. C. is over, and the Thunderhawks are taking their place.

Team President Daryl Lucio says the new colours are going to be black and red.

“The new team name, look and everything, just trying to move forward, it’s been tough years, the last ten years.  So we just wanted a fresh start in Wallaceburg. Fresh start logo, fresh start everything. It’s a new time and new era. We looked at 10 different names and logos, and the crest, we just really loved this one.” says Lucio. “We need the town of Wallaceburg to be committed to us. We’re looking for people to help out.  We need a booster club. We need people to step forward and help us. It’s tough. At the end of the last year we were really worn down, me and Ken. We were doing a lot of different things and we want to keep this here, and with a fresh start, we definitely need some help though.”

The team is also bringing on a new Assistant Coach in Louie Blackbird.

Games will now be played Saturday nights at 8pm.

Lucio says they’re still honouring their past by keeping the retired jerseys retired.
