Laser Pointed At Aircraft In Belle River

Police are looking for a suspect after a laser was pointed at a passing aircraft in Belle River.

The Ontario Provincial Police said officers were contacted by Windsor International Airport control at around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, reporting that someone had been shining a laser at a flight passing over the area.

Officers conducted patrols in the area but a suspect was not located.

Authorities are reminding the public that shining a laser at a plane can distract the pilot and interfere with their vision, potentially a major accident. Intentionally interfering with the performance of a flight crew while performing their duties is also a criminal offence.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Essex County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
