Residents in Wheatley and Tilbury are being told to cut back on lawn watering for the foreseeable future.
The Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has implemented lawn watering restrictions for residential and commercial customers in both towns. The restrictions are in effect as of Thursday, however, it is unknown when they will be lifted.
Customers with odd-numbered addresses will be allowed to water their lawns on odd-numbered days, while customers with even-numbered addresses will be allowed to water their lawns on even-numbered days. There will be a two-month grace period for newly sodded lawns.
Due to recent warm weather in the region and the limitations of the water treatment system in Wheatley, PUC officials said lawn watering has placed extra demands on the water system.
If the water system does not see any relief in the coming days, the PUC said it may need to implement further restrictions.
