The term BYOB will soon take on new meaning at the LCBO – bring your own bag.
Liquor stores across Ontario will be phasing out the use of paper bags in what officials say is part of the agency’s “commitment to minimize our impact on the environment and create a more sustainable Ontario.”
15 years after eliminating plastic bags from its stores, the LCBO says single-use paper bags will be phased out over the coming months and customers will need to provide their own reusable bags.
A news release issued this morning says the plan will remove almost 135-million paper bags from circulation, divert 2665 tonnes of waste from landfills, and save the equivalent of more than 188,000 trees every year.
