Education Minister Steven Lecce had an announcement about remote learning Tuesday afternoon, but it was not about the current state in the province. It was about the future. Leccee announced all school boards in Ontario will have to provide remote learning as an option for students in the fall. He had several funding announcements as well including money for a program to help students struggling with on line classes this year.

“We have built  a “Learning Recovery and Renewal Plan” to help them overcome the difficulty this pandemic has created. $85 million in dedicated funding for students in addition to the other funding already available.

He says they are well aware that many students have experienced regression in literacy, math, and mental health. Another major concern is the number of students and educators who are becoming disengaged from learning. He says they recognize this is an historic impact felt by a generation of students and educators.
