How long current isolation and social distancing measures are in place across the country is still very much up in the air.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the length of current regulations may very well be in the hands of Canadians.
“I’ve said from the very beginning there are a wide range of scenarios that we have been looking at, that we’re planning for, that we are trying to work towards as a government and as a country,” said Trudeau in his Rideau Cottage briefing on Wednesday. “We know they’re going to be in place for a number of more weeks, perhaps more months. Everything depends on how Canadians behave.”
Canada and Ontario’s numbers continue to rise, but officials are optimistic the strict “quarantine” measures Canadians have taken will benefit the health and safety of citizens. That said, it could still be a long haul.
As of Thursday morning, the confirmed case load in Canada was 9,731 with 129 total deaths. Ontario has 2,392 of those cases with 55 deaths.
Prime Minister Trudeau also reminds Canadians the choices made daily could very well determine our outcome.
“The choices you make to stay at home and self isolate… to try to go grocery shopping once a week… these sorts of things are what will (stop) the spread and the increase of this virus. We need all of us to do the best we can,” said Trudeau.
By the end of the day, the U.S. will likely have more than three times times the positive cases as China. The U.S. is currently reporting 215,417 cases with 5, 116 deaths.
U.S. President Trump has warned weeks ahead will see heavily increased numbers, predicting between 100,000 and 240,000 deaths in America.
Comparatively, China has a reported 82,381 cases with 3,316 deaths. Italy has 110,574 cases with an alarming 13,155 deaths. That’s a nearly 12% death rate in Italy.
