Leon’s Furniture in Chatham is temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Reports indicate the St. Clair Street / Highway 40 location has locked the door but will conduct business by appointment for the time being.

On Wednesday, it was announced that the Leon’s chain was temporarily closing 72 stores and laying off nearly 4,000 workers. The Toronto-based company says they will top-up employment insurance and benefits for all employees who are laid off.

Leon’s will continue with online sales at Leons.ca and delivery services operating as per normal.

The company also owns The Brick, Appliance Canada and Midnorthern Appliance.
