A local woman battling leukemia is taking a lighthearted approach to her treatment and encouraging others to lend a hand.

Jocelyn McGlynn is preparing for her second stem cell transplant in less than a year, but took some time to have a little fun.

In a take on the pop-star character “Robin Sparkles” from the TV show How I Met Your Mother, the 22-year-old has created her own alter-ego, “Robin Stemcells” and created a music video to encourage more people to become a donor.

“The goal of this little passion project of mine is to spread awareness for the need to broaden the stem cell registry and to thank everyone for their never-ending support,” McGlynn says. “I am so grateful that my family, friends and community have battled alongside me every step of the way.”

McGlynn wrote the lyrics during her induction round of chemotherapy and recorded the vocals and instrumental tracks between hospital stays.

The video was filmed with her family and friends at the Downtown Chatham Centre.

She says while her journey isn’t an easy one, she hopes it will encourage others to help save lives.

McGlynn will be admitted to hospital tomorrow to prepare for her next stem cell transplant, scheduled for December 20th.
