With less than a week before a provincial by-election in the riding of Lambton-Kent-Middlesex, a new poll shows a healthy lead for the local Conservative candidate.

A new Liaison poll commissioned by the National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada surveyed 367 voters in the riding from April 23-25.

PC candidate Steve Pinsonneault is at the forefront with 52% of those asked either decided or leaning towards voting in his favour. That’s a 13 point increase in support over the previous election results.

Liberal candidate Cathy Burghardt-Jesson sits in second with 21% support, followed by the NDP’s Kathryn Shailer at 14%, and Andraena Tilgner with the Ontario Greens at 12%.

“In Lambton-Kent-Middlesex most of the undecided vote has broken to the PCs who are now at 52% of the vote among decided and leaning voters.” said David Valentin, principal at Liaison Strategies. “The Liberals are in second place which is an improvement on the previous election result in the riding, with the Ontario NDP in third.”

“This was not expected to be a close contest and with only 9% of voters undecided in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex, the race is more or less locked in given the large PC margin.”

The Liaison poll did not include the remaining four candidates representing the Ontario Party, New Blue, None of the Above, or Family Rights party.
