The Alzheimer Society of Chatham-Kent is looking to shine a light on Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
Today marks the start of World Alzheimer’s Month, and the local agency is encouraging area residents to swap out their porch light with a blue bulb, symbolizing dementia and Alzheimer Societies across Canada.
Bulbs can be purchased from the ASCK for $20 with proceeds going to support local programs and services. Residents can also take a picture of their blue-hued home and share it on social media with the tag #ASCK. You can also email a picture with your first and last name to Joel Emery, Fund Development Coordinator at the Alzheimer Society, joel@justasck.ca. All participants will be entered in a draw for one of two $100 VISA gift cards.
A number of information booths are being set up across Chatham-Kent to help raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and the experiences of those who are affected by it. Officials say it is estimated that 955,900 Canadians will be living with dementia by the year 2030.
Information booth locations:
- Shoppers Home Health Care – 406 St. Clair Street, Chatham, Thursday, September 14 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Active Lifestyle Centre – 20 Merritt Avenue, Chatham, Thursday, September 21 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Blenheim Community & Senior Centre – 55 Jane St, Blenheim, Wednesday, September 27 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Blue lightbulbs will also be available for purchase at these information booths.
